Photography-


1. The stereoscopic viewer- World War One area

This invention was one of the few ways that the Australian people could actually see what was going on with the wars and get a realistic view, especially as there was no radio, television or film. Today - due to human curiosity, technology has advanced and basically anyone has the means to be able to document an event. There are now press photographers who are able to get into the action and are able to tell more of a story, as well as individuals who can photographic and vidwo evidence with mobile phones or small digital cameras. An example of this can be seen in the 1990- Present room with the photos from the peace corp in Rwanda.

2. Slide projectors- circa 1900 Colonial commitments area

Sharing photos was and still is a big thing for people to do- we have just advanced our technology which has changed the way we do it. When slide projectors were first used they were lit by a three wick oil lamp- now we can just show our images on the computer. People like to hear and see stories/ life experiences and the need to do this easily made the slide projector advance.

1. Gas masks-

Gas masks were created for protection in the wars- they even had them for dogs and a gas proof box for pigeons too. As the wars went on the gases improved in toxicity and masks had to follow. It improved technology in a few ways as the enemy would have to keep moving forward with creating gases that would be able to get through the masks. Of course the masks had to follow in their technology and keep improving to keep a whole range of gases out.

2. Clothing-

During the wars clothing was one of the basic necessities and it was rationed - material was very expensive and hard to find. But women were creative and used what they could find to make clothing. One woman made a petticoat from a parachoute. In world war two a young woman made her wedding dress with lining material, furniture cord piping & mosquito netting. With silk being a durable material airmen had their maps printed on it. As silk was also a scarce material , one woman made a map into a blouse.
